History of the Vermont Lottery

The Vermont Lottery was established in 1977 after the state’s General Assembly passed Public Act 82. The first game, called the Green Mountain Game, started ticket sales on February 14th, 1978 and the first instant game debuted in June of that same year.

Vermont joined Powerball in 2003 and Mega Millions tickets went on sale in January 2010. Up until May 2014, Vermont residents could also play Hot Lotto, but the game has since been discontinued in the state. Hot Lotto was eventually cancelled all together in October 2017. Revenue from Vermont Lottery ticket sales is allocated to the state’s Education Fund.

You need to be at least 18 years old to play Vermont Lottery games – this applies to state residents and visitors.
