South Carolina (SC) Lottery General Information

The South Carolina Education Lottery Commission is created as an instrumentality of the State and a public commission, with powers comparable to those exercised by commissions engaged in entrepreneurial pursuits.

The SC Education Lottery has a staff of approximately 137 employees and six departments including Internal Operations; Information Technology Systems; Sales & Marketing; Security; Legal Services and Finance. The Internal auditor reports directly to the South Carolina Education Lottery Commission. all employees of the lottery serve at-will and are not covered by the State Employee Grievance Procedures act.

Since the start of the South Carolina Lottery on January 7, 2002, the Legislature has appropriated more than $1.45 billion through fiscal year 2006-07. Lottery funds have been used to support a variety of educational programs.

S.C. lottery closing claims center Tuesday

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCSC) – The South Carolina Education Lottery said it will close its claim center beginning Tuesday because of concerns over the novel coronavirus.

The office will be closed until further notice, lottery spokesperson Holli Armstrong said.

Claims for prizes over $500 and up to $100,000 may be submitted by mail or presented in-person when the office reopens, she said.

The last day to redeem tickets set to expire during the time the office is closed will be extended accordingly.

Anyone who prefers to present their claim in person shoult sign the back of their ticket and keep it in a safe place.

Claim forms can be downloaded from the SCEL website, www.sceducationlottery.com.

Winners should make copies of their claim form and ticket before placing in the mail.
