Basking Ridge Woman Wins Mega Millions, Splits $106M Pot
Daycare teacher has been purchasing lottery tickets with four friends for a decade, report says.

Angela Pares may continue her job as a daycare teacher, but she won’t have to worry about her finances.
The Basking Ridge woman is one of five friends who are splitting a $106 million Mega Millions lottery jackpot, drawn on Sept. 11 of this year, according to The Journal News.
Pares has been splitting lottery tickets with four New York friends for about a decade now, and they finally hit the big one in September. The winning ticket was a quick pick purchased at the Yonkers Grocery & Convenience Store, the report said. The winning numbers were 5, 11, 31, 50, 67 and Mega number 14.
Pares, living in New Jersey, will receive slightly more after the group splits the pot five ways, the report said, bringing home $8.6 million. No one hit big Friday night in the Mega Millions $1 billion jackpot, pushing the pot to a record high.
The jackpot will now soar to an estimated $1.6 billion, the largest in U.S. history, edging out the $1.586 billion Powerball pot.
There were, however, 15 $1 million ticket winners Friday night, one of which was sold in New Jersey. Lottery officials did not say where it was sold as of Saturday morning.
Friday’s winning numbers were 15, 23, 53, 65, 70. The Mega Ball drawn was 7. The Megaplier was 2x.
The jackpot was the largest in the game’s multi-state history at $1 billion with a cash option of $565 million.
The biggest jackpot won in U.S. lottery history came in January 2016 when ticket holders in California, Florida and Tennessee split a $1.586 billion Powerball prize.
Players will now get a shot at the largest pot in history on Tuesday at 11 p.m.
It has been 88 days since 11 office workers who pooled their money in Santa Clara County, California won the $543 million jackpot on July 24. The winners declined to be interviewed or photographed when they claimed their prize. None would disclose where they worked.
Roland Reyes was the only winner identified by lottery officials. The ninth most valuable lottery ticket in U.S. lottery history was bought at Ernie’s Liquor’s in San Jose. The store owner received a $1 million bonus
The largest Mega Millions jackpot-winning ticket — $656 million — was split by ticket holders in Illinois, Kansas and Maryland following the March 30, 2012 drawing.
Just behind that was a $648 million jackpot won in California and Georgia on Dec. 17, 2013.
A Mega Millions ticket costs $2. The odds of a ticket matching five numbers and the Mega Ball are 302,575,350 to 1.
