If there’s no place like home — except for the beach — this might be the lottery home for you.

Located in Jensen Lakes, St. Albert’s first beach community, the Edmonton-area grand prize in the 2020 Cash and Cars Lottery was built for those who want a good dose of Vitamin “sea” or in this case, the next best thing: having a beach minutes from your doorstep.

“The home will be steps away from the future beach and future beach club so instead of driving hours away for a lake weekend, you can just walk down the street,” said Lauren Ruggiero, marketing lead and sales experience coach for Kimberley Homes, which built the lottery home.

The home, a reimagined version of a Kimberley favourite, the New Hampshire, comes in at 3,293 square feet, and has three bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms.

What makes the house unique is its split-level floor plan — Ruggiero notes that when Kimberley builds split-level show homes the feedback is that people love them — and the beach-like design features incorporated into the home.

“It’s a nod to the past in a way but we’re taking the best part of split levels and giving you a little more privacy in spaces where you tend to want it whether it’s working in the office or having the bonus room that is separate from the main living space,” said Ruggiero.

The main floor is open concept, with a chef’s kitchen complemented by an extra-long island and an attached table height quartz extension for casual meals. More formal dining is in the adjacent dining room with feature wall panelling and an eye-catching modern chandelier with silver twigs.

Off to an angle are stairs that will take you a half-level down to a spacious home office. Or take the stairs up and halfway between the main and upper levels you’ll find a bonus room with built-in cabinetry that works well as a great place to relax or to stream your favourite shows.

The upper level is home to three bedrooms — two are connected by a Jack and Jill bathroom while the third is the owner’s suite, which comes equipped with two walk-in closets and an oversized ensuite with an oval tub and a steam shower with a quartz bench.

Upstairs, a curved mosaic tiled pathway in the ensuite is just one of the beach-like influences. Others throughout the house include corals and touches of blue in one of the two other bedrooms, and the sandy stonework around the great room’s fireplace.

“This is our 11th year with Kimberley Homes, our trusted partner, and once again they’ve provided us with an incredible home that we’re proud to feature as one of our grand prizes,” said Ryan Campbell, director, corporate relations for the Alberta Cancer Foundation. “Last year, we contributed over $2 million (through the lottery) for the first time — our highest amount ever and we’re hoping to top that this year.”

That may happen as Campbell notes tickets are already moving quickly and it looks like there could be a sellout for the fundraiser that helps to support Alberta’s 17 cancer centres, including Edmonton’s Cross Cancer Institute.

Changes for 2020 include the addition of a new Win Daily lottery that will see a winner every day in November with cash prizes totalling $345,000. Also, the You Win 50 will be its biggest ever with a maximum prize of $1 million. On the other hand, due to COVID-19 the lottery home is currently not open for public viewing and tickets are not being sold at the cancer centres.

“Cancer doesn’t stop because of COVID-19 so it’s very important that the dollars raised get to the cancer centres,” added Campbell.
