Deal or No Deal’s legendary banker has been made redundant after Channel 4 decided to axe the show today.

Grumpy financier Glenn Hugill has worked on the series alongside host Noel Edmonds since it launched eleven years ago.

But as viewers can neither see nor hear him when he offers contestants cash to quit the game sooner rather than later, he’s far from a household name despite being on one of the most popular game shows of the century.

So who exactly is the banker and does he plan to do next?

Well, some might remember 45-year-old Glenn from Coronation Street during the 1990s when he played policeman Alan McKenna – the boyfriend of hairdresser Fiona Middleton [Angela Griffin].

After an impressive crack at the acting world, he then ventured into presenting and went on to host Five reality show The Mole before becoming a producer of Channel 4’s Beauty And The Geek.

In 2005, he went on to sign a contract with production company Endemol to work on a then unknown show called Deal or No Deal.

When the series became a bigger success than anyone anticipated, Glenn decided to give up his presenting and acting career to focus on the show full-time.

Although he never appeared on camera, behind the scenes, he worked very closely with two other executives to determine financial offers to tempt contestants away from playing the game until the end, which could see them walk home with a cash price of £250,000.

It’s believe the trio would figure out the sum with the help from a computer – although, it was always Glenn on the other end of the phone to host Noel.
